Tis the season to be jolly…fa la la la la la la la laaaa

It is that time of year. Everyone is rushing around trying to get their shopping done, their holiday lights up and their houses decorated and cleaned for family and friends. Traffic seems busy with everyone out and about doing last minute errands. AMC Liquidators is feeling the holiday spirit. With the nation moving towards “going green” AMC is committed to helping the environment as well. Our restoration business is developing and we are moving toward recycling. AMC would like to share a few of our tips for staying “green” during the holiday season—which is filled with wrapping paper and boxes, ribbons and tape.

1.      Lights. After the ornaments are taken down and the lights are removed most people make a mess of their lights and tie them off with a rubber band. Try wrapping them around a piece of cardboard. This ensures they won’t get tangled when you store them for the year and you are using a recyclable material.

2.       Wrapping Paper. As people open presents from loved ones, they tend to crumble up the wrapping paper before throwing it away. Try saving the paper, by folding it and putting it aside. Keep the ribbon, yarn, and tissue paper to use next year.

3.     Ornaments. Think twice before throwing away your egg cartons. Keep them for your holiday ornaments. Because ornaments can be fragile this will not only help protect them for storage but it will also help the environment.

4.      Candles. You may finish your paper towel roll while cleaning the kitchen, but you don’t have to throw out the cardboard tube just yet. Keep it and wrap your holiday candles in tissue paper before storing them inside the tubes. The roll will help to protect your candles, which can be very fragile.

5.       Boxes Within Boxes. Just like keeping your old wrapping paper to reuse, keep the cardboard boxes. Store one inside another to use your storage space effectively.

6.       Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. If you have a real tree and wreath don’t forget to recycle it after the holidays are over. Lots of neighborhoods offer a service to come around and take them from your front lawn. Research places you can drop it off. This is an easy way to help the environment.

“Going Green” can be a lot easier than people think. We should know, we do it every day! Keep it simple. Start off trying one of these ideas and see how it works. We save all of our cardboard and reuse it every day. We take old furniture and turn it into new.

AMC Liquidators hopes everyone enjoys this holiday season with loved ones. Have a happy holiday and a happy new year…we hope to see you in our stores in 2012!
