Best Way To Care For Wooden Outdoor Patio Furniture

Everyone likes to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. It is relaxing to read a book or enjoy friends on the patio. Although lots of people have wooden outdoor patio furniture, not everyone nows how to care for their furniture. Here are some quick and easy tips to keep your patio furniture looking brand new!

1. Teak furniture is known for being one of the best kinds of patio art; but also one of the most expensive. Because it is resistant to insect infestation and contains natural oils, it makes it nearly impossible for it to rot and decay. Cleaning your teak furniture once a year can be helpful to remove pollen, mildew and even sap. It is expensive so before you buy, give us a call. We will sometimes have great pieces in that are not as expensive as other stores!

2. Most patio furniture is made out of cedar, redwood, pine and oak. These must be treated with perservatives to prevent decay (pine in particular). We recommend that you protect it with a water resistant stain. It should be cleaned at least once a year. Mix 1 tablespoon of bleach, 5 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid and 1 gallon of water.  Rub the surface of the wood furniture with a soft bristle brush before washing the solution off and letting it dry in the sun.

3. A lot of people have patio furniture that sits by their pool or in the grass. Keep in mind that a small amount of water can create mildew and the furniture will begin to decay and rot from the bottom upwards. Cover the bottom of the legs with a rubberized material to help protect it.

4. Avoid keeping plastic on the surface for long periods of time, such as toys placemats and plastic tablecloths, which can discolor the wood.

Following these steps can help keep your wooden outdoor patio furniture looking like you just bought it yesterday!
